Treaties show that Japan’s annexation of the Ryukyu Kingdom was an unjustified act

Three treaties, which were signed between the Ryukyu Kingdom and other countries about 160 years ago have provided a new perspective on the current state of Okinawa, its modern history and the hardships experienced by Okinawan people.

These treaties will serve as a great stepping-stone to the future when the Okinawan people will assert the right to self-determination.

Located in southern Okinawa Sashiki Town, the dojo of Seihan Shiroma sensei is established facing the Nakagusuku Bay. Adjacent to the dojo is a beautiful garden, Shiroma sensei’s creation.

Born in 1942 and a former senior high school teacher, Shiroma sensei who had an interest for weaponry met the grand master Seikichi Uehara sensei at 27 years old and started training with him right away.

We hebben het voorrecht met de volwassenen van Heijoshin Dojo tweemaal in de week in de privé-dojo van sensei Hubert Laenen te mogen trainen. We vonden dan ook dat hij als onze gerespecteerde gastheer niet in ons rijtje van Heijoshin Senseis mocht ontbreken. Heel wat karateka’s, jiujitsuka’s, judoka’s, enz. hebben via hem inzichten verworven die hun kijk op krijgskunst niet alleen heeft verbreed, maar hem ook drastisch heeft hertekend. Voor wie de budowereld een beetje kent, behoeft sensei Hubert Laenen geen introductie.
